Find State & Local Resources Call 2-1-1

A functionally health literate parent uses information and services to maintain or promote personal
and child health. Part of managing personal and child health is recognizing the need for resources,
finding them and using them for personal benefit.  The 2-1-1 Call Center Search provides free and
confidential information and referral.  

You can call, or better, coach parent’s to call for help finding statewide and local resources for food,
affordable housing, physical and mental health resources, support groups, domestic violence shelters,
employment, health care, support for women, children and

The 2-1-1 program began in 1997 and is sponsored by the United Way Foundation.  It is available in 49
states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and some Canadian provinces. The program is simple.
The number 2-1-1 is easy to remember. Anyone can access it.  It is free and confidential.  Research has
shown that 2-1-1 “makes the entire human services sector at every level of government work more
efficiently and has been an invaluable resource in the aftermath of a disaster.”
