As federal funding for home visitation increases under the Affordable Care Act
($99 million released today!),so does the demand for evidence of effectiveness.
Where emphasis has been on program outputs—what you did (e.g. number of visits completed),
now programs are required to demonstrate outcomes—the results of what you did.
The list of accepted measures has not yet been determined. One of the best
instruments in the running is the Life Skills Progression—the LSP
Many programs that use Beginnings Guides also use the LSP to monitor parents’ progress
toward demonstrating the life skills that Beginnings Guides, and home visitors, aim
to promote. The LSP is the only available instrument to measure parental health literacy.
