April 26, Issaquah, WA: Sandra Smith will speak on Promoting Health Literacy through Reflective Practice for the Conference of Nephrology Social Workers.
Continuing education credits from the National Kidney Foundation

May 11, Poplar Bluff, MO: Sandra Smith will lead the Parents As Teachers Health Literacy Demonstration Project’s closing reflection conference.  Participating parent educators, funder, PAT-National leadership, and the research team will review and interpret the data, discuss successes, challenges and lessons learned, and recommend next steps for integrating health literacy promotion into parent educators’ practice.

May 19-23, Southampton, England: Sandra Smith will participate in a World Wide Universities Health Literacy Network invitational conference to recommend a global agenda for health literacy research.

December 10-13, San Juan, Puerto Rico: Sandra Smith will participate participate as a Plenary Lecturer during the 13 RCMI International Symposium on Health Disparities.

Past Events

February 9,  Seattle: Sandra Smith discussed “Health Literacy, Beyond Better Information” for the Children’s Environmental Working Group of the Collaborative on Health and the Environment-WA. 
The Collaborative’s aims to integrate health literacy into its work to eliminate children’s harmful environmental exposures during their most critical developmental years.

November 9, 2011,  St Louis:  Sandra Smith presented an update on the Parents as Teachers Health Literacy Demonstration Project at the PAT National Convention

December 8, 2011, Washington, DC: Sandra Smith presented a 90 minute workshop on promoting health literacy through reflective practice  at the Zero to Three National Training Institute

January 9, Milwaukee: Sandra Smith trained the outreach specialists at Community Advocates to promote maternal health literacy among CommunityConnect Health Plan members using the Beginnings Pregnancy Guide
